Transportation Department - We drive the bus!

TRANSPORTATION STAFF

Donda Walsh, our Director of Transportation, manages the district's transportation department of nearly 80 awesome people who work as bus drivers, assistants, mechanics, and support staff. We run about 30 regular bus routes and nine special service routes. Our drivers transport about 5,000 students every day during the school year, not including activity/field trips.

Register Your Child to Ride the Bus

Every district student is likely to need bus transportation during the school year whether it's to and from school, field trips, extra-curricular activities, and/or sports competitions or events.

To register your child/children to ride the bus, go to Online Forms in your Skyward Family Access account and complete the SD 271 Transportation Acknowledgement Form. It's a lot easier to fill out the form on a tabletop computer rather than a cell phone!

Register Your Child for a Bus Pass

When registering your child to ride the bus, you'll also need to register them for a bus pass. New passes are required each year to ride the bus.

You can register your kiddo for a pass when you fill out the SD 271 Transportation Acknowledgement Form by checking the Rider box. Please review the Bus Standards of Conduct, Behavior Discipline Plan, and Route Delay/Reunification Plan with your child so you are familiar with the information. Once you've done that, digitally sign the form and submit it. Once we determine that your child is eligible to ride the bus, your bus driver will give your child their pass.

Passes may also be picked up at the Transportation Office (address below) or contact us at (208) 667-3451 or cdaschools.transportation@cdaschools.org and request your child's pass be sent to his/her school and you can pick it up there.

If your child's pass is lost or damaged, please let us know and we'll replace the first one at no charge.  Additional replacement passes are $5 each. Click here to request replacement passes. Please be sure to register for replacement passes using the same information in your Skyward account to avoid delays.

Specialized Transportation is Available

If you have a student with special needs, please follow the steps outlined above to register your child to ride the bus and get them a pass. Our schools work with us to ensure specialized transportation is available for our students who qualify. A member of our team will reach out to our parents/guardians of students with special transportation needs based on the information schools provide.

Transportation for Kinders

If you have a kindergarten student who needs bus transportation, you'll need to register him/her to ride and get them a bus pass. To register your kiddo, please go to your Skyward Family Access account and click on Online Forms. From there, fill out and submit the Kindergarten End-of-Day Instruction form and the SD 271 Transportation Acknowledgement form.

Our kindergarteners need to have a bus pass on the first day they ride the school bus. Passes for registered kinders will be available at your school's open house at the beginning of the school year. Parents/guardians may also pick passes up for registered riders at the Transportation Office (address below).

Bus Route Information

When bus route information is available at the beginning of each school year, we post it in the Busing section of your Skyward Family Access account. Please check the home address in your Skyward account to be sure it is correct. This is the address we use to determine your child's bus route/eligibility.

Unfortunately, students who live outside the bus route boundary or inside the Student No Transfer Zones for their attendance zone school are not eligible to ride the bus. If this is the case for your family, you won't see bus route information in your Skyward account and bus passes will not be issued to your child/children.

Transportation Options for Ineligible Students

If your child is not eligible to ride the bus, we encourage you to consider safe walking paths to and from school, form carpools with other families, or start a Walking School Bus or Bike Train in your neighborhood. A couple of websites that may be helpful to you are: Teach Children to Walk Safely and Walking School Buses.
