Behavior Discipline Plan

In a continuing effort to provide the safest ride possible for your child / children, the district supports School Transportation Standards for Safe Conduct that students must follow.  Please go over the expected conduct with your child/children. To any driver, a distraction is a safety hazard. With this in mind, we have developed an assertive discipline program to be used when necessary while riding transportation provided by the Coeur d'Alene School District.

The following steps will be followed to maintain a safe environment.

1st Infraction - Driver gives the student a citation (warning only). The student must take the citation home to a parent /guardian. The parent /guardian must sign the citation (let's driver know that you have seen it). The student must then return the citation to the driver the next time transportation is needed. (Students WILL NOT be allowed on any CDA SD transportation without a signed citation.)

2nd Infraction - Driver gives the student a citation to take home to parent/guardian. A copy of the citation will also be emailed to parents/guardians.  The student will be denied transportation privileges until a phone conference is held between the driver and the student's parent/guardian to address behavior and develop a plan to move forward.  The parent/guardian will be responsible to call the transportation department to schedule a conference with the driver.

3rd Infraction - Driver gives the student a citation to take to a parent/guardian. A copy of the citation will also be emailed to parents/guardians. The student will be denied CDA SD transportation riding privileges for 10 days.  Parent/guardian, student, driver, transportation director, and principal conference must take place before the student can ride. The parent/guardian will be responsible to call the transportation department to schedule a conference.

4th Infraction - Driver gives the student a citation.  The student will be denied CDA SD transportation privileges for 10 days.   A copy of the citation will also be emailed to parents/guardians.    A conference between the parent/guardian, student, driver, transportation director, and principal conference must take place or if determined, the student will go before the District Discipline Review Committee (DDRC) to access potential consequences, including additional restrictions on transportation privileges

Severe Infraction - Students receiving a severe infraction of safe conduct while using CDA SD transportation will be denied all riding privileges WITHOUT PRIOR WARNINGS. The student will be denied CDA SD transportation privileges for 10 days.   A copy of the citation will be emailed to parents/guardians.    A conference between the parent/guardian, student, driver, transportation director, and principal conference must take place before bus privileges may be reinstated or if determined, the student will go before the DDRC to access potential consequences, including additional restrictions on transportation privileges.

A severe infraction includes, but is not limited to, the following:

l.  Fighting.

2. Physical harm or threat of physical harm to the bus driver.

3. Physical harm or threat of physical harm to another student.

4. Destruction of Property.

5. Total disruption on the bus.

6. Illegal activity.

When a student’s riding privileges have been suspended, the student may not ride any CDA School District #271 transportation to school, any activities, field trips, sports events and after school programs until requirements are met for the appropriate

Citations are kept on file for one calendar year.  Expect a limited schedule for conferences during the last two weeks of the school year.

This discipline plan is to help ensure that all children have the safest ride possible while in the Coeur d'Alene School District's care. We would appreciate your support in helping your children understand the importance of following the School Transportation Standards of Safe Conduct while using school district transportation.
