Special Education

The Coeur d’Alene Public Schools Special Education Department is committed to supporting the success of every student. We believe in the value and potential of all learners and work to ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction and services.

We provide individualized supports and a comprehensive continuum of special education services designed to meet each student’s unique needs. Services are delivered within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) to support access to the general education curriculum and meaningful participation in school.

Students who meet eligibility criteria outlined in the Idaho Special Education Manual receive services guided by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) developed in partnership with families. There is no one-size-fits-all approach—goals, accommodations, and services are based on each student’s strengths and needs.

All district schools are supported by special education professionals and related service providers. Whenever possible, services are provided at a student’s home school to support inclusion and learning alongside neighborhood peers.

Child find

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that school districts provide a free and appropriate education to all disabled children and young adults from birth through 21 years of age.  The Coeur d'Alene Public Schools requests assistance with the identification of any disabled children ages 0 through 21, who are not enrolled or currently being served in one of the district’s schools.  If you know of any disabled children ages 0 through 21, who are not receiving educational services, please call the Coeur d'Alene Public Schools Special Education Department at (208) 664-8241.
