School-Based Medicaid

Coeur d'Alene Public Schools provides a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) through the provision of special education and related services. These are provided at no cost to parents. Health-related and rehabilitative services are provided to students receiving special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) when these services are considered medically neceessary for the child to participate in his/her educational program. Coeur d'Alene Public Schools is enrolled as a Medicaid provider and can receive reimbursement for certain school-based services provided that:

  • The child is eligible for Medicaid;

  • Each service is specifically identified on an Indivdual Education Plan (IEP); and

  • Services are medically necessary for a child to benefit from his/her educational program.

Coeur d'Alene Public Schools will seek Medicaid reimbursement only after receiving parental written, informed consent. The claims submitted by the District for reimbursement will not impact a family's ability to access these services for their child outside of the school setting. Furthermore, all services will be provided at no cost to the family.
