My name is Lisa Barnett and I am one of the 5th grade teachers here at Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities. I am so excited to be a part of the Sorensen family this year where creativity and critical thinking go hand in hand! This is my 11th year of teaching. I have most recently been teaching 6th grade ALP Language Arts and Social Studies.
My husband, Thomas Barnett, is also a teacher here in CDA at Lakes Middle School, and we have two young and fun boys, ages 5 and 3. When I am not at school I love to enjoy the outdoors. We love to bike, hike, swim and be close to the lake at all times. I look forward to having my boys grow up here at Sorensen and watching their juggling and marimba talents shine! In the summers we can often be found traveling. A fun fact about me is I have traveled to about 12 different countries and have taught in Mexico and New Zealand. I love bringing a celebration of cultures into our classroom!
Drawing, acting, creating and digging in…These are just a few of the things you would see if you were to walk into our classroom. I believe a classroom should be a magical place where we are engaged in rich discussions on topics relevant to our lives, and the arts are a vehicle to deepen our learning! I look forward to a great year of learning together!
