Our students are excelling! We rank #2 statewide among districts our size in graduation rate, the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) test, and the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT), and we won't stop there. We are working to close the gap and get to #1!
Our job is to do everything we can to ensure our teachers and schools have what they need to prepare our students for their futures, wherever their journeys take them when they graduate.

*The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $93 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2025, and that currently costs $93 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value is not expected to change.

Reminder! Some of our schools will serve as polling places for the general election, so Tuesday, November 5, 2024 is a non-school day for students.
Local officials expect a high voter turnout so it’s best not to hold classes that day to ensure a safe environment for voters and students. Regular school schedules will resume on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Governor Brad Little and Secretary of State Phil McGrane officially declared September as National Voter Registration Month in Idaho with a proclamation encouraging all eligible citizens to register to vote or update their existing registration. This proclamation emphasizes the significance of voter participation and the need for awareness regarding state voting requirements and deadlines.
“We want every Idahoan to be ready to vote on Election Day. With the November 5th General Election just around the corner, it’s important that everyone has the tools and information they need to participate in decisions that impact their communities,” said Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane. “I appreciate Governor Little for recognizing this important month, as we look forward to historic turnout for the November Election in Idaho.”
Idaho joins other states in observing National Voter Registration Month in September, established in 2002 by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) as a nonpartisan means of encouraging voter participation and increasing awareness around state requirements and deadlines for voting. During the month, National Voter Registration Day will be observed on September 17, 2024, with a voter registration drive at Gowen Field. Idaho residents may register online or check/update their registration at www.VoteIdaho.gov.
The Governor’s proclamation states, “I encourage all interested citizens, appropriate media outlets, and civic organizations to participate in this non-partisan voter registration awareness campaign to encourage the maximum participation of qualified voters in Idaho.”
To register to vote in Idaho, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Idaho, and at least 18 years old by Election Day. The deadline to register online at VoteIdaho.gov before the Nov. 5, general election is Oct. 11. Same-day registration is also available at the polls on Election Day.

Coeur d'Alene, ID — August 28, 2024 — The Coeur d'Alene School District 271 Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to authorize the district to place a $25 million supplemental school levy on the November 5, 2024, general election ballot. This measure meets the immediate and essential needs of the district’s students, staff, and community by ensuring continued excellence in education and maintaining vital programs and services.
The proposed levy fills the gap between the funding the district gets from state and federal sources and the cost to provide education as it exists today. Levy funds help sustain the district’s exceptional education opportunities by supporting sports and extracurricular activities, operational costs, teacher salaries, classroom materials, safety measures, technology upgrades, and student support services. Additionally, the levy will ensure the district can continue to offer programs that enrich students’ academic and extracurricular experiences.
"This levy is an investment in our community's future," said Rebecca Smith, Board Chair of the Coeur d'Alene School District. "For decades our community has said yes to providing our students with the academic rigor they need as well as other opportunities that make their educational experience exceptional - sports, arts and music, extracurricular activities, advanced classes, school nurses, safety officers, and many other programs.”
“Our goal is to provide the highest quality education possible that equips every student with the tools they need to succeed. This levy is crucial to maintaining the high standards and values that our community expects from its public schools."
Without the levy, the district will need to make significant budget reductions that could result in eliminating sports, extracurriculars, school nurses, and safety officers. Reductions could also impact class sizes, the number of teachers and staff and cuts to essential programs.
Superintendent Dr. Shon Hocker described how levy dollars help the district achieve its mission: To ensure students become lifelong learners, empowered by their knowledge and skills, to be responsible citizens. "Our students are the future leaders, workers, and citizens of Coeur d'Alene. Local support is an investment in their potential and assurance that our schools continue to be a source of pride and strength for our entire community."
As the November 5 election approaches, the Coeur d'Alene School District and its Trustees will engage in a community outreach and education effort to ensure voters are informed about the specifics of the levy.
Beginning the week of September 9, the district will provide information on a dedicated levy page of the district’s website. Community members with questions or comments for the district may use this Contact Us form. The district’s Board of Trustees can be reached via email at trustees@cdaschools.org.
