We’ve made it through the first two weeks of school, and overall, it has been a wonderful start! Students and staff have quickly settled back into routines, and the energy in our building feels great.

Morning Drop-Off Reminder
Our biggest area of growth has been morning routines. Please remember that there is no supervision outside before 8:40 a.m. At 8:40, students may enter the building for breakfast or wait in designated areas until 8:50, when classrooms open. For safety reasons, please do not drop your child off unattended before 8:40.

Safety Drills
Throughout September, we will be practicing different safety drills with students. These include a fire drill, a safety hold, and a lockdown drill. We will guide students carefully through each practice to ensure they know what to do in the event of an emergency.

Attendance Matters
Attendance is a key factor in student success. Please help your child be at school every day. If your child has a fever, is vomiting, or has diarrhea, please keep them home. If it’s just the sniffles, it’s okay to send them to school.

Assessments & Learning
Teachers have been busy getting to know their students and are currently working through beginning-of-the-year assessments. These assessments help us understand where students are academically after summer break. The results guide our teaching—whether it’s reteaching standards, providing intervention for past skills, or offering enrichment to extend knowledge.

New Need to Knows

--> Smart Snacks & Birthday Treats: The Coeur d’Alene School District must follow USDA Smart Snacks requirements for all food and beverages served to students. As a result, we can no longer allow treats or snacks that do not meet these requirements to be shared with students. We are asking families to bring in smart snack options, trinkets, or think of other ways to celebrate student birthdays outside of treats.

--> Smart Watches & Cell Phones: All CDA School District schools have a no cell phone policy for students. Cell phones need to be put away once students enter the building and stay in backpacks until students exit the building. Smart watches need to be turned off while students are in the building.
