Throughout the month of May, Sophomore Advisories at Venture Academy have been actively engaged in hosting a student-led Career Faire, an initiative designed to deepen their understanding of various career paths and prepare them for future academic projects, including their Senior Projects.
As part of the Career Faire, each student selected a career to research in depth. Their research focused on key aspects of the profession, including job descriptions, average salaries, benefits, required schooling, and necessary certifications or training. The goal was to gain a realistic picture of the professional world and the options available to them beyond high school.
Students showcased their findings through visually engaging posters and dynamic slide presentations. While some students focused on creative poster displays to promote their chosen career, others opted for digital presentations aimed at encouraging peers to consider their field as a viable career path.
The Career Faire took place in a rotating format throughout the month, with students taking turns as both presenters and observers. To guide these interactions, questionnaires were distributed, helping students engage meaningfully with presenters and ask thoughtful questions about each career.
Teachers provided follow-up feedback after the presentations, offering praise for elements that went well, such as confident speaking, clear visuals, or insightful research, and constructive advice on areas for improvement. The feedback loop not only reinforced learning but also mirrored the kind of reflection students will use in their future Senior Projects.
“This event gave our sophomores a chance to develop presentation skills, practice peer-to-peer communication, and most importantly, start thinking seriously about their futures,” said one faculty member. “It’s a step toward building both confidence and purpose.”
By participating in the Career Faire, students took an active role in planning for their post-secondary goals while building valuable skills in research, public speaking, and professional awareness—skills that will serve them well in the years ahead.
