Venture Academy Students at Arbor Day Tree Bagging

In a celebration of both community and environmental stewardship, teacher, Mr. Levy took over 20 students from Venture Academy to participate in a time-honored tradition: bagging saplings to be sent to local elementary schools. The activity, held in honor of Arbor Day, allows younger students to learn about the importance of trees and conservation through hands-on experience.

This annual event has been a cherished part of Venture’s culture for nearly 30 years. It began when the school still had a daycare, and a teacher—whose husband had long participated in sapling bagging—suggested bringing the practice to Venture. Her idea blossomed into a beloved tradition that continues to educate and inspire students today.

“Getting students involved in something that benefits the environment and connects them with the younger generation is incredibly powerful,” said Mr. Levy. “It’s about more than just planting trees. It’s about planting ideas and values.”

Arbor Day, observed annually in late April or early May, is dedicated to public tree planting across the U.S., Australia, and many other countries. It serves as a reminder of the vital role trees play in our environment, from providing oxygen and habitats to reducing pollution and erosion.

Thanks to the dedication of Venture students and staff, hundreds of saplings are now on their way to classrooms throughout the area—carrying with them not just roots and soil, but decades of tradition and a vision for a greener future.
