Theater
My name is Katie Palmer and I am lucky to be the co-director of Sorensen’s Theater Team! I used to be a shy little girl who would hide behind her mother’s legs and cry if a stranger even looked at me! Luckily, I attended an elementary school that focused on arts and acting. In first grade, I was cast as Mr. Tumnus in my school’s production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Although I was terrified at first, I steadily gained skills and confidence and went through an amazing transformation.
I went on to play major roles in several plays throughout my elementary years and got used to playing in front of packed university auditoriums! As an adult, I’ve gotten to be entertained by my brother who performs frequently as an improv actor. I find improv performances to be hilarious and exciting. I use the technique of improv acting often in my 5th grade classroom.
After school on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30, Laura Foster and I direct a team of K-5 Sorensen students and prepare for public performances throughout the school year. The students love to be creative, work hard, have fun, learn quickly, and stretch themselves!
