Coeur d'Alene Public Schools is excited to announce that our Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025 is Tara Gray, 4th grade teacher at Ramsey Magnet School of Science. She was presented her award at Ramsey's 4th grade concert last evening.

Statement read during the presentation:
"In Mrs. Gray’s classroom, she strives to create a space that fosters safety, fun, and community, where students feel trusted as thinkers and leaders. Through engaging discussions like a Socratic Seminar on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, students analyze evidence, challenge ideas, and take ownership of their learning. Structured strategies, such as "talking blocks," ensure every voice is heard, fostering confidence and collaboration.

She balances student-led discussions with direct instruction, using data-driven approaches to tailor lessons and support growth in writing and critical thinking. Project-based learning encourages perseverance, while reflection and goal-setting build independence. Students develop resilience and a growth mindset by understanding that mistakes fuel learning.

One example of this is demonstrated through her podcasting initiative to engage students in digital content creation while fostering empathy, collaboration, and a growth mindset.  The podcasting initiative has impacted the school culture by promoting collaboration and mentorship across grade levels while fostering essential skills such as communication, creativity, and teamwork. It has provided students with meaningful opportunities to share their voices with the wider community, giving them a platform to express their ideas and perspectives.

Trust is at the heart of Mrs. Gray’s teaching philosophy. She trusts in her students' curiosity, capabilities, and potential. In turn, they learn to trust themselves, knowing that with effort and reflection, they can succeed in any challenge."

Congratulations Tara on this much deserved recognition!
