Tamara Engelbrecht is one of the hidden gems in the Coeur d’Alene School District. Working behind the scenes as a Remediation Assistant at Lake City High School, Tamara has a big impact on students and her colleagues.
Shelly Blank, a teacher at LCHS, said Tamara is known not only as a tutor but also as a mentor, confidante, and friend.
“Her students fondly call her “Mrs. E.” because of her engaging and empathetic personality,” said Blank.
For these reasons and more, Tamara is the District’s Classified Employee of the Month. Tamara, who has worked for the district for nearly nine years, interacts with a diverse student population who experience literacy difficulties. She is an integral part of Lake City High School's assessment and intervention system.
Tamara works with students who come from challenging backgrounds. Her efforts are life-changing.
“She lets each student know they are valued and important, as well as capable,” said Blank. “She is known to purchase materials and food to supply hungry mentees with her own money.”
Many students have experienced dramatic growth (and even incremental growth) in their literacy skills because of her tireless efforts.
“She provides a warm, welcoming environment for students who sometimes just need the opportunity to have a break but also ensures they are where they need to be.”
She communicates with everyone in a cheerful, professional and calm manner, and can be trusted to complete work efficiently,” said Blank.
“She is the type of employee that understands a teacher's busy schedule, and works to support teachers in effective and insightful ways,” said Blank. “She is also a great thought partner in the work environment. She is also kind, inviting and helpful to all staff members. She goes above and beyond. She truly sets a precedent for what it means to be a professional educator.”
