| | Daily Attendance - A Big Key to Success! One of the biggest predictors of student success is simple: being in school. Every class period matters. When students miss instruction, discussions, or hands-on practice, it’s hard to make up what was lost. A study by the Baltimore Education Foundation found that students who missed just 2–4 days in September were five times more likely to be chronically absent than those who missed fewer than 2 days.
The message is clear: showing up early sets the tone for the whole year. When students start strong, they build momentum, confidence, and connections that carry them through. Together, we can help every student build strong habits that lead to long-term success. | |

What about a special trip or occasion (wedding, funeral)? Every once in a blue moon, we recognize a child may need to be gone for a few days. For those special circumstances, we offer a self-directed learning option. Please see application for that request below; it outlines requirements. Students who apply should be at grade level academic achievement and self-motivated learners. Requests must be submitted 5 days in advance.
NOTE: Please make vacation trip plans, as possible, during school breaks. |

Visitors and Volunteers We love to see our families support their students by visiting or volunteering!
You are a visitor if you come infrequently to help out in your student's classroom for parties or attend a special event. You do NOT need to complete a volunteer application to be a visitor.
You are a volunteer if you come to help out on a regularly scheduled basis. Your student's teacher will be the best contact for scheduling those volunteering days and times. To start this process, please visit https://www.cdaschools.org/volunteer to fill out a volunteer pre-screener.
Here are more tips and guidelines for visiting/volunteering at our school from the District, as we are partnering with a local company, Campus Check. |

At Dalton, each teacher has discretion in how he/she handles birthday acknowledgments inside the classroom. At the school level, we expect parents/families to communicate with a teacher ahead of time if they would like to send in a celebratory item. If the item is food, the snack should be smart-snack compliant (see attached handout below). Snacks should be simple, healthy, and easy to pass out and eat. Please do not send in a cake expecting a teacher to spend valuable learning time cutting it up and passing it out with forks, plates, and napkins. In addition, it is very messy and full of sugar! A better idea is a birthday pencil or sticker or a healthy snack (i.e., fresh fruit and Greek yogurt cups prepared ahead of time). Parents need to manage invitations to parties outside of school unless they plan to invite the entire class. Otherwise, teachers spend valuable learning time consoling excluded kiddos. Thank you for understanding and following these guidelines. |
