Students at food donation with food crates

The recent Canfield Cares Healthy Food Drive was managed by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Sources of Strength students at Canfield Middle School. Their healthy food drive is competitive based. Two Pride Periods were assigned one healthy food item to donate. The Pride Period bringing in the most (by weight) of the assigned food item was the winner between the two Pride Periods. Eighteen healthy foods were identified in all.

The donations were given to the school-based pantries within the Coeur d’Alene School District:

1. Canvas Healthy Food Pantry

2. Venture High School Healthy Food Pantry.

All of these pantries are “choice” pantries so our families in need can select the foods they take home. Eat Smart Idaho from the University of Idaho works closely with our school-based pantries and helped us identify the highest priority foods right now for our school-based pantries. All of our donation sites have refrigeration and freezer capacity to take the perishable donations some of our classrooms have been assigned.

Donation day was the morning of Monday, APRIL 29th. Eat Smart Idaho helped them manage perishable donations and get them down to the refrigeration units at our school-based pantries immediately after the food was donated.

Canfield Sources of Strength is proud to be giving back to those students and families in need within our Coeur d’Alene School District.
