Project Search 2025 graduates

Inspiring speeches, thunderous applause, joyous celebrations filled a large conference room at Kootenai Health Wednesday afternoon as eight young people with disabilities graduated from Project Search.

The high school transition program provides education and training to the students, many who have already secured employment at local businesses.

“I was just hired by Kootenai Health,” said Wyatt Emond, who shared that he hopes to move into an apartment soon. “Thank you to all of the supporters of Project Search.”

Over 100 attendees wiped away tears as each student told their stories and shared what they learned as Project Search interns. They thanked mentors, co-workers, friends and their families for supporting them along the way.

This year’s graduates are Victoria “Tori” Benson, Janie Curl, Jeanie Curl, Wyatt Emond, Madalynn “Maddy” Reed, Durant Teague, Emily Szmani and Spencer Vogt.

The year-long internship program allowed students to learn important life skills, such as teamwork, the value of hard work, communication and commitment. Many graduates said their self-confidence increased and they were empowered by Project Search mentors.

The program, launched in 2011 as a partnership between Kootenai Health and the Coeur d’Alene School District, celebrated its 15th year last winter.
