After four years at the helm of Coeur d’Alene High School (CHS), principal Mike Randles will retire from the Coeur d’Alene School District at the end of this school year.
Mr. Randles brought extensive experience to the district as a classroom teacher, a secondary school administrator, and a student activity leader. His service is marked by a deep understanding of what an effective and responsive classroom and school environment should be, fostering supportive and engaging cultures wherever he went.
Mr. Randles’ tenure with the Coeur d’Alene School District prioritized building strong relationships with students, staff, and the broader school community. In his role as CHS principal, he led his staff in implementing Professional Learning Communities and Response to Intervention.
Prior to his role at CHS, Mr. Randles taught English at Sandpoint High School before accepting the role of assistant principal/activities director at CHS in 2016. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Montana in 1992, followed by a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Idaho in 2006 and an educational specialist degree in 2013.
His leadership is marked by achievements in academic performance, student involvement, increased graduation rates, a focus on student-focused learning and well-being, and strong leadership in student activities and athletics.
“Mike Randles has been a steady and principled leader during his tenure with the Coeur d’Alene School District,” said Trent Derrick, Executive Director of Secondary Education. “His impact on the CHS community over the past four years is both deep and enduring, leading with strength, humility, and a commitment to what matters most - students, staff, and community. On behalf of our entire district, we thank Mike for his exceptional leadership. He will be missed.”
“Serving as the principal of Coeur d’Alene High School has been the greatest privilege of my professional career,” Mr. Randles wrote to CHS staff. “When I first interviewed for this role, I spoke about CHS as a special place. That belief has only deepened over time. CHS is a school full of dedicated professionals - people who show up every day for their students, for each other, and for something larger than themselves. It has been an honor to stand alongside you.”
This announcement marks a significant transition for CHS, and the district is committed to selecting the right leader to carry forward the culture and momentum the team has developed. The district will now conduct an internal and national search to ensure the next principal not only continues the strong traditions already in place but will also continue to lead the CHS team effectively in the years ahead.
