OUR NEW STRATEGIC PLAN
In 2019, Coeur d'Alene Public Schools began developing a new strategic plan to guide the direction of the school district. Guided by our Portrait of a Graduate, the Strategic Plan incorporates findings from the May 2019 Curriculum Audit report commissioned by the Board of Trustees; and the 2018 Futures Report outlining recommended improvements to the district's Special Education services delivery.
For our students to be well prepared for learning, careers and life after high school, they need a system that puts learners at the center. Students need a system that starts with two guiding questions:
What should Coeur d’Alene School District students know and be able to do?
How can we create a system that will get them there?
This plan, developed in a collaborative process to answer those driving questions, represents strategic shifts toward:
High quality, engaged learning
Through the work of our instructional framework, each Coeur d’Alene student will engage in learning experiences that build on their interests and abilities, affirm their curiosity and need for challenge, and develop their capacity in each of our six Portrait of a Graduate components.
Intentional Processes for Curriculum and Assessment
Coeur d’Alene students will access a 21st century curriculum that is robust with additional resources and access possibilities for personalized differentiation and support. Teachers, students and families will access and reflect on learning goals, achievements and opportunities for improvement through formative and performance assessments that tell a more thorough story of student learning in alignment with the district curriculum and the six Portrait of a Graduate components.
The Coeur d’Alene community is growing and developing into a robust destination for families to raise their children. By prioritizing the investment in and updates of our facilities, our students and families will be able to access safe, modern facilities that provide an environment for future focused, collaborative learning experiences.
The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Steven Cook are building on the foundation of continuous improvement, by establishing this strategic plan to develop key areas of progress and impact over the next 10 years. Through this intentional systems success and evaluation process, Coeur d’Alene Public Schools will realize the vision of being a premier educational institution.
Each graduate of Coeur d’Alene Public Schools will be equipped with
the skills, knowledge and disposition needed to pursue their future.
COMPONENTS OF OUR PLAN
In February 2019, Curriculum Management Solutions, Inc. performed a curriculum audit for Coeur d'Alene Public Schools. The district commissioned this independent examination of curriculum and instruction to provide a snapshot of our current state and provide an appropriate blueprint for change to help us attain our mission, which is to provide the absolute best education for the children of our district.
The audit is direct and explicit about where the Coeur d’Alene School District has gaps in effective and efficient design, delivery and monitoring of the district’s curriculum, and how the focus of the entire system should always be to support the work of teaching and learning. The audit also outlines recommendations for the Board of Trustees and district administration to consider in addressing these gaps.
The audit team leader briefed the Board of Trustees on the conclusions on May 20, 2019.
SPECIAL EDUCATION AUDIT
Coeur d'Alene Public Schools commissioned a review of its support services for struggling learners. This educational services analysis was conducted in 2018 by Futures Education and presented to the district in November 2018. The full report is available here.
