The Coeur d’Alene School District’s Board of Trustees formally declared a vacancy in Trustee Zone 1 at their May 12, 2025 regular meeting and is seeking applications to fill the vacancy on an interim basis.

Interim Trustee Position Details
The interim Zone 1 Trustee will be appointed by the Board in July 2025 and hold the seat until a new trustee, elected in November 2025, takes the seat in January 2026. The interim Trustee may run for the Zone 1 seat if they choose.

Application Process
To apply, submit a packet with the following information to the Clerk of the Board by June 16, 2025 at noon:

1. Applicant’s contact Information

2. Applicant’s background

3. Resume and/or Curriculum Vitae

4. A Letter of Intent including the following:

   • Description of applicant's interest in being an interim Trustee for Zone 1

   • Applicant’s top three objectives, if selected as the interim Trustee

   • Applicant’s current professional and personal affiliations (i.e., student(s) in the District, former employee, etc.)

Applicants Must:

1. Be over 18 years of age

2. Be a US Citizen

3. Be a registered voter

4. Have lived inside the District boundary for at least 30 days

5. Not be a District employee or have a spouse employed by the District

6. Live within Zone 1 at the time of appointment

   • Applicants may use our Attendance Zone tool to determine if they live within the Zone 1 boundary. 

Timeline
May 12 Board declares a vacancy in Zone 1 at their regular board meeting.
May 14 Application window for Zone 1 interim Trustee opens.
June 16 Application window closes at noon.
June 17 Applicants potentially receive questions from the Board.
June 23 Responses to potential questions due to the Clerk by 4:00 PM.
June 30 Board reviews applications during a public workshop and potentially selects candidates to interview.
July 1 Board interviews the candidates and potentially selects the successful interim candidate during a public meeting.
July 14 If selected, the interim Zone 1 Trustee is officially appointed and sworn in at a regular board meeting.

Please Note

• If the Board of Trustees cannot appoint a Trustee from Zone 1 within 90 days of the declaration of vacancy, they have an additional 30 days to appoint a Trustee from anywhere in the district (not limited to Zone 1). 

• If a qualified candidate has not been appointed by this deadline, the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners will fill the vacancy.
