Meet Our Facility Dog "Blue"

hello my name is blue

Blue and Erin Duncan

Blue, or Little Boy Blue, owned by Mental Health Counselor, Erin Duncan, is a large, calm, independent, charming guardian, and an all-around “good-dog”. In 2019, Erin and Blue developed and piloted our District's current facility dog program/policy during their time at Winton Elementary. Blue is a cross between a Bernese Mountain dog and a Poodle and is considered hypoallergenic. Bernedoodles (Bern-eh-doodles) are known for their gentle temperament and adaptability to children. Blue is a registered therapy dog with Alliance of Therapy Dogs. His job is to help kids and adults feel better while encouraging empathy and connectivity. To add to his charm, this guy loves to sing and will sometimes belt out a tune to string instruments, blenders, vacuums, or power tools.

Lulu and Christine Barber

Lulu, owned by handler Christine Barber, was born October 30, 2021. She came from a miniature golden doodle breeder in Montana, Paws Fur-ever. Christine and her family picked up Lulu the day before Christmas Eve in Sandpoint. Lulu was approved to come to Atlas in 2022 and joins Christine at school almost every school day.  Lulu has been an instant hit in the office spreading love among staff and students. Students spend time with her throughout the day and enjoy watching her grow up. Lulu has achieved the Advanced AKC Canine Good Citizen™ certification and her Therapy Dog certification through Alliance of Therapy Dogs. At home Lulu has 3 brothers, another full-sized golden doodle (Hank), a Pomeranian (Cozmo), and a mini golden doodle (Bodie). Lulu loves to play with other dogs, fetch the ball, and sit on laps for snuggles.

Journey and Connie Anderson

Meet Journey, a Bernese Mountain Dog born to spread cheer and comfort. Journey is owned by handler Connie Anderson and gives100% of her 90 pounds to ensure that everyone she meets feels an emotional boost. At 3-years old, Journey has earned multiple AKC certificates including Canine Good Citizen™ and Urban Canine Citizen. She is currently training towards the Community Canine Citizen and is expected to pass with high marks. In addition to her Certified Therapy Dog status, Journey has tapped into her ancestral roots and learned to pull a cart (a.k.a drafting) and loves marching in parades delighting spectators. Journey can be spotted encouraging youngsters to read in the CDA Library Children’s section during the Paws to Read Programs. Journey is a life-long learner so obedience training and trying new things defines her future. In the meantime, her human and team partner, Connie look forward to visiting the K-12 students throughout the Coeur d'Alene School District to celebrate the everyday joy experienced when connecting dogs and humans.

There are times when we all need a break from our everyday stressors and could benefit from extra cheer.  Be sure to ask Connie for one of Journey’s trading cards!
