Margo Swanson, Lakes Middle School

Colleagues, friends and family turned out today to surprise Margo Swanson with the Teacher of the Year award for all of Coeur d’Alene Public Schools. Margo teaches English at Lakes Middle School, where she has been for four years. Principal Jeff Bengtson said, “As I enter her classroom on any given day, it is easy to see that students are engaged in their work, and Margo is facilitating a lesson in which students are responsible and accountable for their own learning. … You will quickly see how she connects with her students and inspires them to strive for excellence.” Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate today, including our friends with the Coeur d'Alene police and fire departments.
