How much will the replacement levy cost taxpayers?

The Coeur d'Alene School District has relied on voter-supported supplemental levies to help fund teachers and staff, programs, and operations since 1986. A levy represents the total amount a local unit of government may collect on a tax rate. When a school levy is approved, taxpayers support the levy based on this "levy rate" which is calculated by dividing the amount voters authorize the district to collect by the total value of property inside the school district. Property values inside the Coeur d’Alene School District have grown over the past several years due to increased assessed values and new construction.

Supplemental Levy Tax Rate

Below is some information about the taxpayer cost to support this levy:

  • Voters approved our current two-year, $25 million school levy on May 16, 2023. This levy expires on June 30, 2025.

  • The levy that will be on the November 5, 2024 ballot replaces the current two-year, $25 million levy.

  • The annual taxpayer cost to support the current levy is $93 per $100,000 of taxable assessed property value.

  • Based on current conditions, we expect the annual taxpayer cost to support the replacement levy is the same - $93 per $100,000 of taxable assessed property value.

  • If voters approve the replacement school levy on November 5, we don't expect the levy rate per $100,000 of taxable assessed property value to change.

The formulas below are used to calculate estimated supplemental school levy tax amounts for 2024 and 2025. The tax rate for the replacement levy on the November ballot is the 2025 estimate.
