Health Professions/MA is a 2 year course.Year 1 Introduction to Health ProfessionsThis course is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the health caresystem and introduction to the roles of various members of the healthcare team. Current trendsand issues in healthcare are explored and discussed. Professionalism according to industrystandards, legal and ethical issues, and job descriptions for health occupations will be reviewedalong with job shadowing experience.Additional curriculum includes basic anatomy and physiology, infection control, as well as anintroduction to medical terminology. Students will also receive their American Heart AssociationCPR Certification.(Year 1 is a prerequisite for Year 2)Year 2 Idaho Medical Assistant CertificationDuring this year, students will be provided instruction through classroom theory, lab and clinicalskills in preparation for the Idaho State Medical Assistant Certification exam. This programteaches direct patient care in a doctor’s office or urgent care setting and clinical andadministrative skills necessary for this high-demand career. Duties that a medical assistant willlearn and perform in a medical office include:● Interview patients and record their medical history.● Measure patients' vital signs, such as their blood pressure and weight.● Help physicians with patient examinations.● Give patients injections or medications as directed by physicians and as permitted by state law.● Schedule patient appointments.● Collect and prepare samples of blood and other specimens for laboratory tests.● Disposing of contaminated supplies, and sterilizing medical instruments.● Enter patient information, such as their vital signs and test results, into medical records.● Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies.Medical assistants may have a range of administrative tasks. They help patients understandand receive their insurance coverage, such as by completing forms, coding information, andcontacting companies about billing.They also have to answer telephones. Medical assistantsoften focus on either clinical or administrative tasks, although some do both.Complete your 160 hour Medical Assistant Apprenticeship and receive the opportunity to takethe National Certification in this accelerated program for current health care professionals. Takeskills introduced in class and apply them under the supervision of a Clinical Preceptor while youwork. Under the supervision of health care providers, Medical Assistants are valued supportmembers of the healthcare team. Medical facilities all rely on the Medical Assistant to provideclinical services for patients and ensure the clinic flows smoothly
