National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is a student organization that...

  • Is composed of juniors and seniors of high character and scholarship who desire to better their community through leadership and service.

  • Promotes and provides opportunities for further student involvement in community service and school leadership.

Benefits of being a member of the National Honor Society:

  • It is an outlet for creative volunteer and leadership work.

  • It provides an organized way for students to give back to the community.

  • Colleges and universities nation-wide recognize NHS members for their demonstration of academic and extracurricular excellence.

Requirements per year:

  • Annual dues of $20

  • 20 individual volunteer hours (minimum), including 5 tutoring hours - record of hours with non-family/friend adult signature(s) confirmation completed in part by late January and in full by early May

  • 10 hours (minimum) participation in various chapter-wide projects

  • Attendance at biweekly chapter meetings (see handbook for meeting schedule)

Applying:

  • The application window spans the first and second weeks of school in September.

  • Applications are reviewed and new members selected by a panel of anonymous faculty members.

  • Minimum requirements for application:

    • junior or senior status

    • completion of at least one semester at CHS

    • 3.5 cumulative GPA

    • current enrollment in at least one Honors/AP course

    • successful completion of at least two Honors/AP courses if applying as a junior

    • successful completion of at least three Honors/AP courses if applying as a senior

    • demonstrated dedication to leadership, scholarship, character, and community service
