
Workplace Exploration Experience
Student Expectations
Students are required to complete a Workplace Exploration Experience that includes connecting with a mentor in a career field of interest. This experience allows students to explore real-world careers, learn workplace expectations, and gain insight into post-secondary pathways.
Mentor & Experience Requirements
Students must work with a mentor who is actively employed in their field of interest
Mentors may not be a parent or a high school employee
Students will complete 10 total hours of workplace exploration during junior and senior year
Experiences may include job shadowing, workplace tours, interviews, or career-related projects
A mentor approval form must be submitted before hours begin
Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to:
Schedule and communicate directly with their mentor
Be punctual, professional, and appropriately dressed
Follow workplace rules and respect confidentiality
Ask questions, observe different roles, and show curiosity
Observe different roles and learn how the organization functions
Build technical or job-specific skills (e.g. customer service, marketing, coding)
Be proactive in seeking feedback and setting goals with your mentor
Reflect on what they learn and connect the experience to future goals
This experience is student-driven, with parental support as needed, and is designed to help students build professional skills, explore careers, and prepare for life after high school.
