Workplace Exploration Experience

Student Expectations

Students are required to complete a Workplace Exploration Experience that includes connecting with a mentor in a career field of interest. This experience allows students to explore real-world careers, learn workplace expectations, and gain insight into post-secondary pathways.

Mentor & Experience Requirements

  • Students must work with a mentor who is actively employed in their field of interest

  • Mentors may not be a parent or a high school employee

  • Students will complete 10 total hours of workplace exploration during junior and senior year

  • Experiences may include job shadowing, workplace tours, interviews, or career-related projects

  • A mentor approval form must be submitted before hours begin

Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to:

  • Schedule and communicate directly with their mentor

  • Be punctual, professional, and appropriately dressed

  • Follow workplace rules and respect confidentiality

  • Ask questions, observe different roles, and show curiosity

  • Observe different roles and learn how the organization functions

  • Build technical or job-specific skills (e.g. customer service, marketing, coding)

  • Be proactive in seeking feedback and setting goals with your mentor

  • Reflect on what they learn and connect the experience to future goals

This experience is student-driven, with parental support as needed, and is designed to help students build professional skills, explore careers, and prepare for life after high school.
