IMPORTANT CHANGES IN SCHOOL MEALS AT VENTURE HIGH SCHOOL

Starting this school year, the Coeur d’Alene School District is making changes to the school meal program at Venture High School.

Previously, ALL STUDENTS attending Venture were welcome to eat breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE.

    What’s new:

    1. Students who qualify for free meals will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE.
    2. Students who qualify for reduced priced meals will pay 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch.

To receive free or reduced-price meals, families need to fill out an application at the start of each school year. To see the income eligibility for free/reduced-price meals, and to download an application, go to www.cdaschools.org/mealapp.

    1. All other students will pay the same rate as students at other schools in the district: $1.70 for breakfast and $3.05 for lunch.

Why are we making this change?

Venture has been eligible for the federal Community Eligibility Program, which allows all students to eat school meals at no charge in low-income areas.

This year, with the improving economy, the number of students at Venture who qualify for free meals has declined. The Board of Trustees for the School District voted Aug. 6 to convert the CEP program at Venture and other schools to match the meal program at other schools in the district.
