Principal's Message

  • Nick Lilyquist

With seven weeks of school left, I am reminded just how close we are to the end of a unique school year. There are certainly glimpses of some normalcy in our schools again. I am so proud that we have students in the building five days a week. I have been in classrooms quite a bit lately, and I can certainly see that teaching and learning has ramped back up. This is exciting! After the school year is over, we will certainly reflect on things we did differently that we want to keep, and things we don’t want to do again in the future.

We have students about to start taking portions of the ISAT tests. As a reminder, here is our testing schedule:
April 26-30 8th Gr. ISAT Science
May 3-7 All Grades Language Arts Testing
May 10-14 All Grades Finish Language Arts Testing
May 17-21 All Grade Math Testing
May 24-48 All Grades Finish Math plus Makeup Tests
We will evaluate the data to find areas of strength and areas we need to improve on next year. We recognize the data may be affected to some extent by our shutdown last year and possibly our blended learning this year.

Speaking of data, we are gathering information from your students regarding elective choices for the 2021-2022 school year. Course offerings can be found on Canfield’s website under the “Quick Links” tab (scroll down). We welcome the opportunity to talk if you have specific questions about our scheduling process or curriculum offerings. Feel free to contact administration, counselor, or teacher for a time to talk.

With the arrival of warmer weather comes a change in student dress. Please review the expectations for student dress, which can be found in your son/daughter’s agenda, school website, or school district website (Board Policy 3255). This will help avoid office referrals and school consequences. Keeping students appropriately dressed is one of many ways that we can keep students focused on learning and not distracted to end the school year.

I want to thank all of you in advance for spoiling our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7. PTO, with your help, always treats us so well. Stay tuned for important emails on end-of-year celebrations. With all of us working together, we will have a successful seven weeks. Thanks for your continued support of Canfield Middle School. Please know the door is always open should you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns.
