As I write this message, the snow is melting and temperatures are finally creeping up a bit. It is nice to have more hours of daylight. As the weather warms up, please keep an eye on your student’s dress. Canfield will be enforcing the district dress code to maximize student learning and minimize distractions. March is going to be a quick and busy month (Spring Break takes place the last week). We will host our parent night for current 5th grade parents (incoming 6th graders) on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:00. Please help spread the word to any parents who have a 5th grade student at one of our feeder elementary schools. In looking ahead, we will begin our ISAT s on Monday, April 17. Also, CHS and LCHS will both hold their parent night for incoming freshman on April 19 at 6:00 at both schools.
I want to congratulate all the 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams on great seasons. We were not only successful in the wins and loss columns, but we also displayed good sportsmanship. Another congratulations goes out to Mr. Regan and his Robotics team and Mrs. Roth and her Mathcounts team. These students put in many hours of preparation and represented our school well at local competitions.
Our staff is continuing to focus on effectively using Google and student grading in our Monday morning collaboration meetings. All staff members will be piloting eight grading policies during the second semester. We will revisit these grading practices at the end of the year to see which ones to keep permanently, which ones to tweak, and which ones to get rid of for next school year. The ones we keep permanently will be included in beginning of the year teacher newsletters and discussed during Open House next year with parents.
In closing, thank you all for your continued support of Canfield Middle School. I am truly lucky to work along with such great students, staff, and parents.
