As I write this message, the sun is shining, which makes me so happy. It is nice to have more hours of daylight. As the weather warms up, please keep an eye on your student’s daily wardrobe. Canfield will be enforcing the district dress code to maximize student learning and minimize distractions. March is going to be a quick and busy month as Spring Break takes place at month’s end. Since attendance zone boundaries are not yet set, we are holding off on our parent night for current 5th grade parents until May (more details to come). 8th graders will begin working with high school counselors on freshman courses. 8th grade families please keep a close eye on your email for incoming freshman events at both CHS and LCHS.
In looking ahead, we will begin our ISAT testing the second week after we return from Spring Break. We do our best to build a testing schedule so students don’t take multiple tests the same week, but sometimes we have a little overlap if students take longer to finish. One of the ISATS will be done during an entire Monday testing schedule. Another one will be done with some extended blocks of time. And the rest will be done during class time. It will take about 4 weeks to get all the testing done. We tried to select the best testing format for each test that we feel will help students perform their best.
I want to congratulate all the 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams on great seasons. We were not only successful in the wins and loss columns, but we also displayed good sportsmanship. Good luck to our 7th grade boys basketball players who just started practice this week. Additionally, congratulations to Mr. Regan’s Robotics team and our Mathcounts Team. These students put in many hours of preparation and represented our school well at local competitions.
In closing, thank you all for your continued support of Canfield Middle School. I am truly lucky to work alongside with such great students, staff, and parents.
