Principal's Message

  • Off we go on another successful school year at Canfield Middle School. My favorite part of working at Canfield Middle School is the family feel and the high expectations for students, staff, and administration. We want staff and students to give it their best effort every day. Our staff believes in the value of positive relationships and having a growth mindset. It is fun to watch staff positively interact with students in the hallway between classes. We value being well rounded and encourage students to get involved in music, arts, and extra-curricular activities. Our school is fortunate in the fact that we have very supportive families that share our high expectations. Once students are in the classroom, quality, engaging lessons take place throughout the school. Many classrooms are effectively using new technology.

The #1 thing I tell parents of incoming students is that everything will be just fine after the first two weeks. The high level of anxiety parents and students have as they head to middle school quickly goes away once students open their locker for the first time and walk their daily schedule. We will have a ton of staff in the hallways helping with lockers, directions and any other concerns that may arise. Canfield’s goal is for all of our students to be nice and grow to their potential academically and emotionally (School Motto: Cougar Pride= Attitude + Effort).

Once again this year we will be sending progress reports home via email every three weeks (no paper copies). Grades will average the entire semester. We encourage you not to wait until progress reports and check your child’s grades frequently on Family Access. Family Access if a user friendly web- based program that allows you to track your child’s progress at any given moment. If you need information or a password, contact Kimber in the front office. If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s grades, please contact your child’s individual teachers or the counselor to set an appointment. Please don’t wait; we want to form a cohesive team right away to make your child successful.

We know that with all of us working together, Canfield will be a place where students achieve great things.  Always feel free to contact us with comments, questions, and/or concerns.
