My name is Renee Kurtz and I am the K-5 General Music teacher at Atlas Elementary. This is my second year in this position, and I think it's safe to say that I LOVE MY JOB! These kids are great, and the support I have received from the parents, community and PTA is fantastic!
My husband Steve and I moved here 5 years ago from Farmington, MO, where we raised our family (Moira and Matthew, both in college) and served in the education realm for the bulk of our careers. I spent the majority of my teaching tenure doing long-term sub jobs for teachers needing to be gone for an extended period of time, cementing my ability to jump into a variety of situations and figure out how to keep kids in a stable learning environment. My favorite job was teaching K-8 music, which is what ultimately got me here to Atlas.
In my free time I enjoy giving private piano lessons, playing with the Presbyterian church praise team, and working at Tim's Special Cut Meats in Post Falls. I've also been a Segway Tour Guide in downtown CdA and a variety of other little resort town jobs that have all been entertaining.
You are always welcome in our classroom. I'll probably put you to work, but we love performing and showing off for anyone who has time to come and join us. My goal is to teach kids to love music and to play well with others, whether it's in music or life in general. :)
