About Northwest Expedition Academy
Northwest Expedition Academy, or NExA for short, is a K-5 public school in the Coeur d'Alene School District 271. Our school was founded in 2017 at the historic Hayden Lake Elementary School with a small group of students and hard working educators that committed to embarking on a very different learning journey that wasn't yet offered in North Idaho. NExA is the only public elementary school in the Inland Northwest that offeres Project-Based and Expeditionary learning.
NExA is a remarkable school for many reasons, but one of our most important beliefs, that every staff memeber holds, is the importance of inclusion. Inclusion for students at our school means that every child is in their general education classroom recieving the same instruciton as their peers with support form our special education department without being pulled out to a separate environment. Please take a moment to read more about the importance of inclusion and why we feel so strongly about it in this wonderful article written by our very own Special Education teacher, Mrs. Staudacher, for Idaho Ed News: Inclusion Unites Our Learning Community, Creates High Expectations for All
Our school has thrived and grown the past three years and we are now moving to a brand new building off of Prairie Avenue for the 2020-2021 school year. We added many new staff members, and we will be welcoming many new families to the Otter Family, and we are excited to continue to watch students excell in this positive, inquisitive, and unique learning environment.
