Degrees and Certifications:
Leanne Bullamore, BSN, RN
Hello! My name is Leanne Bullamore and I have been the School Nurse at Lakes Middle School since 2015. I obtained my Associate Degree in Nursing in 2007 from South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, WA. Later, I obtained an Associate Degree of Arts from Spokane Community of College and then continued on to Washington State University for my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Before becoming a School Nurse, I worked in an acute care setting taking care of people who were sick from chronic diseases that could have been prevented. When I completed my BSN at WSU in 2015, which was all about preventive care and upstream thinking, I realized I could really make a difference in people's lives by educating young people on how to live a healthy lifestyle and prevent the diseases I was seeing people struggle with every day.
When I left the hospital, I noted that many of my colleagues and the general community considered School Nursing to be an easy job which simply consisted of handing out hugs and bandaids. But School Nursing is so much more than that! Since coming to the Coeur d'Alene School District, my nursing career has expanded in ways I had never imagined! In addition to having opportunities for public speaking, advocacy and policy, I recently held a three-year position in leadership and am still currently a member of the School Nurse Organization of Idaho. I am also a member of the National Association of School Nurses.
Being a School Nurse entails the management and delegation of health services including:
- Medication Administration
- Development of health care plans
- Diabetes care
- Tracheostomy care/airway management
- Gastric tube feedings
- Sterile catheterization
- Immunization review
- Reportable disease tracking
- Vision and hearing screenings
School Nursing is an exciting, fun and challenging career, and I am so grateful to hold the position of School Nurse at Lakes Middle School!
