I’m so excited to share my love for music with the students at Dalton Elementary this year! It’s my first year here, but I’ve been teaching music for over 30 years. I’ve been very involved in community choirs for over 18 years in addition to teaching piano and voice in my own studio. I love musical theater and believe that music can be a tremendous tool for teaching all kinds of subjects. I can’t wait to have your student share his or her musical journey with me.
We have an exciting addition to our school this year and that is a brand new music room/stage! We will put it to good use. Because Dalton hasn’t had room to spare in the past, we’ve not had as many instruments to explore as other schools in our district. We’re hoping to change that soon with the application of grants, and also through some music room fundraising. Please help if you can! A well-equipped music room will enhance learning and hopefully add motivation to explore different musical experiences throughout their lives.
Grades 2-5 will be doing a lot with recorders this year (in anticipation of our new instruments). Kids can purchase their own recorders for $5 (I’ll send home a form) to use in class. There will be some class recorders he/she can use (be aware, they are well used instruments – but CLEAN!).
I am so happy to be using the music program the District has purchased called “Quaver”. It’s such an incredibly comprehensive program and adaptable to almost any instrument we will have the opportunity to get our hands on. It’s also very interactive and we’ll be doing some classroom activities where kids can explore their creativity with music. They can continue their creativity at home with log on info they will get from me. They might have assignments that will come home for them to complete.
An additional opportunity for 4th and 5th graders this year is to join the Road Crew. Dalton’s Road Crew has a long running reputation for excellence and we hope to continue the tradition this year. We will rehearse on Tuesday mornings from 7:50 – 8:40 beginning on October 9th. Sign up forms should be coming home in September. This is not much time to prepare for all we have to do, so please make the commitment to be on time and prepared to rehearse!
Here’s to a musical year!
