Welcome to 6th grade here at Lakes!
I am so excited for this year, as it is my first official year at Lakes! I have been working with kids in several different capacities for 7 years now. Before we moved to Coeur d'Alene my family was living in San Antonio, Texas. Before Texas became home we were in New Mexico where I graduated from NMSU and worked as an archaeologist. My husband and I have been married for 13 amazing years and have two terrific kiddos. My daughter Isabelle is also in 6th grade and my son Maximus is now in 3rd grade.
What Are We Learning?
In our ELA classes, the students will be reading novels such as Hatchet, The Lightning Theif, as well as a novel of their choosing. We will be growing as writers through narrative writing, argumentative writing, and explanatory written work. Along with reading and writing your student will develop skills such as, researching, finding credible sources, comparing and contrasting across genres and media, and so much more!
In our Social Studies class, this year students will learn geography, archaeology (my personal favorite), as well as dive into ancient cultures around the world. We will be conducting archaeological digs, taking virtual tours of ancient sites, experiencing a day in the life of an ancient Mesopotamian farmer, and much much more. I am really looking forward to all of the wonderful experiences and learning we will do.
Finally this year I will be teaching a photography discovery class. This will be a lot of fun. Students will learn about forced perspective, composition, how to build a camera from a shoe box, the history of photography as well as many other concepts. Students will take pictures, edit, and submit their work.
