Welcome to 4th grade at Northwest Expedition Academy! My name is Jessica Novak and I am excited to have your child in class this year. I was born and raised in North Idaho and graduted from the University of Idaho. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing with my dogs, outdoor activities, sports, and doing different crafts/projects.
Our classroom will be an inclusive environment for all learners and I expect that all students will follow the three school rules. Be kind. Work hard. Be safe. Together, we will have an excellent year full of learning and building our new school community through expeditions and projects. It is an exciting opportunity for all of us to be a part of!
If you need to contact me at any time, please feel free to send an email or call the school. Email is the easiest way to get ahold of me and will typically have the fastest response. However, if you feel a phone call is more appropriate, please do not hesitate to call.
Idaho Agriculture and You!
Recently, we studied Idaho agriculture and addressed the essential question: Why is Idaho agriculture important to you and your family? Students spent time developing schema through research about Idaho agriculture and its' importance and then took their knowledge and created an infographic to share with their families and the community that answered our essential question. We also prepared a potato bar in order for students to share Idaho agriculture with their families and the community. We were able to take an expedition to Super 1 Foods in Hayden, do a cost analysis of everything we would need, and then write letters to community partners asking for donations for our potato bar. Throughout this project, we also attempted to grow our own agricultural product, lettuce, while studying the scientific process. We were also fortunate enough to be able to partner with and take an expedition to a local agricultural technology company in Hayden called Coeur Greens to see a different type of agricultural production process and learn about their company in order to further explore agriculture in Idaho.
