    Mission and What We Do:

The National PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

The NExA PTA strives to be a unifying link between families and school staff. We aren't just a fundraising organization - we strive to advocate for the entire NExA Community. You can participate as much or as little as you would like, but by joining the PTA are in a better position to be informed about NExA and help our students succeed.

    The 2020-2021 PTA Executive Board

Jessica Gaby, President: I am a proud NEXA Mom. Over the last 3 years 4 of my 5 kids have attended NEXA. 3 of them are returning Otters this year. My children have experienced amazing growth and development through the PBL model and inclusion at NExA which is something we are passionate about ensuring for every student that enters the walls of our school. I believe a large part of our mission as a PTA is to support teachers as they adapt their teaching methods to fit each student’s individualized needs.  Here at NExA we celebrate each student as an individual and the integral role they each play in their community and that is something I am humbled to be a part of.

Janelle Murphy, Vice President: I'm a Para Educator and parent of a NExA 3rd grader. I love the outdoors, crocheting, and painting.

Vanessa Staudacher, Secretary: I am a special education teacher and a parent of former NExA students. This is my 2nd year on the PTA Board. When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family. We like to hike, bike, kayak, camp, and read!

Elise Smith, Treasurer: I am excited to start my 2nd year on the PTA Board.  I’m the mom of 4, 3 of whom currently attend NExA. Favorite hobbies include reading, baking, and exploring the world with my crew. I love the NExA Community and am so excited to see the school and the PTA grow this year!

    Membership:

Membership is $10 per person for the year. A portion of the dues are sent to the National and State PTA, and a portion stays right here at NExA.

    Meetings:

Our General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th right after school. Location TBA. Masks and social distancing will be required.

This is our primary annual meeting to review Standing Rules, the budget, goals for the year, and solicit memberships.

***In this new world of COVID-19 Restrictions we ask for your understanding as we try to navigate the best way to hold meetings safely.***

    Current Priorities:

Shade Canopies for Outdoor Classrooms: We have been tasked with providing approximately 10 large outdoor shade canopies for use as outdoor classrooms. These classrooms will aid in social distancing measures and allow children to learn in the great outdoors. After their use as classrooms has been completed they will be available for classes to take on outdoor exhibitions and for school events in the coming years.

We are currently soliciting monetary and in-kind donations to meet this need.

Outdoor Office Space: Current CDA School reopening plans indicate that parents will have little to no access to the inside of school buildings. We would like to provide Mr. Rutherford and Mrs. Weinberger an outdoor space to meet with parents. Ideally we will find in the form of an event canopy with walls. The space will be furnished with simple outdoor patio furniture and a tent heater.

We are currently soliciting monetary and in-kind donations to meet this need.

If you can help with any of the current priorities, please email nexapta@gmail.com

    Fundraising:

For the 2020-2021 school year, our fundraising will be very minimal. We do not want to place a large burden on our families with the current pandemic impacting the economy.

Please plan to see advertisements for “Dine Out” nights where we earn a portion of the proceeds if you eat at a certain restaurant. We will select restaurants with curbside and delivery options as much as possible.

Spirit wear sales will be our other main fundraiser this year. We try to keep our spirit wear items as affordable as possible and work with a variety of local and online vendors to do so. We do earn a small amount from each item purchased.

Fundraising allows us to provide much needed funding for so many important school programs. We are optimistic about the future and hope to resume more robust fundraising as soon as possible to meet the needs of the NExA School Community.
