• Welcome to Kindergarten:

We are so excited to begin your child's learning journey here at Northwest Expedition Academy! Kindergarten is such a wonderful year full of exploration, growth, friendship, laughter, learning, and fun. We have 3 kindergarten teachers who are eager to meet your child and begin guiding them through their first year of learning.

    Letter from the Principal:

    August 22, 2023

Dear NEXA Community and Incoming Kindergarteners:

We have had to make some changes to our Balanced Beginning Schedule.  We hope the changes will be more accommodating to you all.  The first major change is that all students will attend a half day Tuesday-Friday.  The second major change will be that transportation will be provided for Kindergarten the first day of school for all students with a pre-registered bus application.

Transitioning to Kindergarten can be challenging for students and families.  A balanced beginning will allow students to start the year with a shorter instructional block, smaller class sizes, and opportunities to meet the NEXA staff in a more personalized manner.

    Overview:

We are so very excited to welcome you to NEXA. The Coeur d’ Alene School District intends to host a balanced beginning for all incoming Kindergarten students. NEXA will conduct our Balanced Beginning from Tuesday, September, 5th to Friday, September 8th.  Students will come to NEXA for a shortened school day these first four days of school. Students will resume the full day schedule on Monday, September 11, 2023.

    Open House and Kinder Screening

Please come to meet the teacher/Open House on Thursday, August 31st from 4:00-6:00 PM.  At this time, you will meet the Kinder team.  The Kinder team will work with each child through a rotation process on Tuesday, September 5th.  The team will work to create preliminary class lists to be published on Tuesday evening.   Please watch for a personal email from your teacher on Tuesday evening.  Lists will be posted as well on Wednesday morning at the front of the school.

    Schedule: Tuesday,September 5 to Friday, September 8

All students in the AM and PM, please report to Room 201 for check in.  PM students, please grab your lunch first then head to Room 201.  Students will be broken into AM or PM blocks Tuesday through Friday based on their last name.   The two scheduled blocks are as follows:

AM:  9:00-11:30:  Students with a last name A-L

PM:  1:00-3:20:  Students with last name M-Z

    Lunch and Breakfast:

Breakfast will be provided at 8:45 to the AM students.  Lunch will be provided in the AM at 11:00 and PM at 1:00.  The PM lunch will be a sack lunch for those students who have not eaten.  Full price lunch is  $3.25 and reduced lunch is $.40.

    Transportation:

Transportation will be provided for all students who have registered for a bus pass.  Bus passes will be provided to all pre-registered families at Open House.  Please obtain your bus pass on August 31st.  Students must have a buss-pass to ride the bus on the first day of school:  before and after school.  There will be NO transportation for Kindergarten midday bussing the first four days of school. So if your Kindergartener is in the AM, they could take the bus to school but not home. If your Kindergartner is in the PM, they could only be bussed home.

    School Supplies:

Please bring your school supplies on Wednesday, September 6th to avoid confusion amongst classes.

Class Lists are Subject to Change

The Kinder screener will help us place students preliminarily for the first week of school.  As we progress through the month of September, the Kinder staff will be ensuring placements are balanced and equitable.  Changes will be made based on behavioral and academic needs.  Any changes made to the preliminary class lists will be posted on Friday, September 8th by 5:00 PM and parents will be notified.  Class lists are subject to change through the month of September.

Thank you and please feel free to contact me with any further questions you may have.
