Welcome!I'm pleased to be a part of the Lake City High School team! I have lived in Coeur d'Alene and been a part of this staff (as a spouse) since the doors of Lake City High School opened 22 years ago! This is my 20th year in education. I have taught Title One as a Reading Teacher, 1st, 2nd and 4th Grades. Additionally, I have served the Coeur d'Alene School District as a Literacy Coach. I have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, my National Board Certification in Literacy and am certified as a K-12 Literacy Specialist with my Reading Endorsement.I am an avid runner, cross country skier and hiker. I spend lots of hours outdoors with my husband, Russ Blank, and family. My son Austin, my daughter Kadie and our youngest Philip, are all graduates of e Lake City High School!I love teaching Reading. It is one of the greatest joys I have as an educator. I am passionate about helping kids prepare for their next steps into adulthood as a mentor and a reading teacher. High Schoolers are funny people! They are energetic, and full of wonderful ideas and questions. My job is to help them think about what they see and know, how they know what they know, and how to express what they know in thoughtful, productive and efficient ways. Whew! Additionally, I hope to inspire them to find texts that they enjoy reading as lifelong learners.I am ALSO the Advisor for the IMPACT Student Leadership Program which equips high school students as mentors and literacy thinking partners for kids in elementary schools. I am incredibly excited to be able to help students build these intentional, lifelong skillsPlease feel free to contact me at anytime with questions!2020/2021 High School Educator of the Year

I do not give Homework. If your student wants to read their Reading (Learning) Ally book at home, then they can download the FREE app and have access to it on any device. They can also access Achieve 3000 at home through the district website.
I allow students to make-up or redo any assignment during the semester as long as it is for an EXCUSED absence.
I assess all portions of the Reading Process and use that data to drive my instruction and help your student set their own learning goals.
Those areas are: Spelling=Phonics & Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension using Thinking Strategies, Listening & Speaking.
Google Classroom is used primarily for classroom assignments that students need to find or make-up. It is not used for Grades. I place all grades in Skyward. Daily "Gifts" are a representation of our daily work and again, they can be made up or redone throughout the semester. Your student is also responsible for keeping all materials in a Classroom Binder.
