  • Welcome to 6th grade at Woodland Middle School!

I love the adventures that happen in room 106! My name is Jennifer Brown, and I teach 6th grade Language Arts. I moved to Coeur d'Alene when I was 10 and extremely enjoy North Idaho. I graduated from the University of Idaho in 2006 with a B.A. in Education and a B.A. in Special Education. I started my career in the Lakeland School District in the fall of 2006. I was humbled in 2012 when I received Teacher of the Year at Garwood Elementary School. I moved to the Coeur d' Alene School District in 2014 and have been here at Woodland since.

My family and I love being outdoors four-wheeling, hunting, and fishing. Some of my personal interests include reading, going to the movies, and anything minions!

In 6th grade ELA, we have two hours together to go over reading and writing. In reading we focus on 4 thematic units: Turning Points, Our Heros, Facing Challenges, and Ancient Realms. Each unit has excerpts or novels we dive deeper into. For writing we complete three types of papers: informative/explanatory; arguments; and narratives. We also learn how to make well organized constructed responses, conduct research projects, and create multimedia projects. Sixth graders also get a chance to practice public speaking and group collaboration.

One of my biggest beliefs about being successful in middle school is communication. Clear communication is vital now that students have so many classes they move around to during the day. Skyward and google classroom are the two most important places to find information for ELA class. Announcements and grades can be found in Skyward. Copies of weekly materials and things worked on in class can be found in google classroom. Please check both of these sites and look for emails from ELA class.

    Sixth grade is the best!!
