Counselor's Corner

  • Meet Our Counselors

I am Jennifer Zaike, school counselor serving students with last names A-J at Lakes. I graduated from Gonzaga University with a Master of Arts in School Counseling in May 2011. I have been working as a school counselor since 2012, and the majority of my experience has been within a middle school setting. I love middle school because the students are at such a pivotal moment in life, and are very fun to work with. Prior to becoming a school counselor, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Students are encouraged to fill out a "Counselor Time" slip located in the counseling center when they need to see us for any reason, and we also welcome requests from parents/guardians and school staff. The main topics we discuss with students are academic advising/planning, school performance, as well as personal and social issues. I am proud to be a source of support for the Lakes community. Please let me know if there is anything you need.

Hi! My name is Emma Turgeon and I am the new counselor at Lakes serving students with last names H through O.  I am new to the Coeur D'Alene area but have spent the last six years in the Eastern Washington region.  I completed my undergraduate degree at Gonzaga University in Spokane (GoZags!) and then continued to my education at Eastern Washington University in Cheney where I received my Masters of Science in Counselor Education.

I welcome the opportunity to work with both families and students in order to serve their academic, social, and emotional needs.  I became a school counselor because I am passionate about giving our students the skills and support necessary to be healthy, happy and successful individuals.  If students have a concern and wish to meet with me, there are "Counselor Time" slips located in the front office that they may fill out.  If a aprent or guardian has a question or concern, please feel free to call or e-mail me and I will touch base with you as soon as possible.

I am Dan Higbie,  this is my 12th year as a counselor in Coeur d’Alene Schools, and I am happy to have the opportunity to work with the parents and students at Lakes Magnet School.  I transferred to Lakes from Coeur d’Alene High School, and I will be working with student’s last name K through Z.

I grew up in Montana and then attended college at the University of Idaho.  I earned a B.S in Business Education.  I taught and coached in Moscow for a few years and then earned a M.A in School Counseling from Montana State-Billings.  I worked as a counselor in schools in Wyoming and Nevada before coming to Coeur d’Alene.  I also earned a M. A. in Ed. Leadership from Eastern Washington.

I am looking forward to a great year.  If you have any questions or have concerns, call or email me.
