It's so wonderful to be back at school! I can't wait to get to know my new 4th grade students.
This is my 21st year of teaching elementary school in the CdA district. I love working with students and families to do our best for kids, and bring out their awesomeness.
My husband and I have raised 4 kids here in northern Idaho. We have 3 boys, ages 23, 19 and 13, and 1 daughter who is 17 years old. We are a very active family with kids in football, wrestling and cheer leading. We are always on the go.
When I'm not at school, I'm usually at an athletic event. If I get some quiet time, I love to read, play the piano, go for walks with my dogs, or best of all, take a boat ride!
My favorite thing to teach in 4th grade is Idaho History. I especially love exploring the Lewis and Clark expedition, aka the Corps of Discovery! Sacajawea (Sacagawea) is my hero! I can't wait to share her story with you!
We will also expand our math skills with multiplication, division, and fractions. Of course, we still use a lot of multi-digit addition and subtraction, so warm up your math brain!
4th graders do a whole lot of reading to learn, even as we are still becoming better readers and writers. Don't worry. We dig dip into our Thinking Strategies and discover what "metacognition" is. I'll give you a hint, it's thinking about our thinking, which makes us better readers and understanders.
There is so much more to talk about! During science, we explore land formations, experiment with energy, and observe some biology with plants and animals.
You can see that there is a whole lot of learning to do this year. Come to school ready to read, think, write and expand your brains!

See you soon,

P.S. Supplies... All of the supplies are important, but we especially need the writing journals, whether spiral or composition notebooks. We use them daily. All of the kids need a pencil box for their supplies. Each student will have a classroom cubby for books and supplies. We share pencils, but everything else can be labelled.  We really do use markers, crayons, scissors and glue. If its on the list, we use it. Thank you for getting all the supplies for your student.
