Welcome to Mr. Smidt's English class! I am very excited to be working with you this semester.
A little bit about myself: I was born in San Diego, but (like most Californians) we moved to Idaho, and I have lived in Coeur d'Alene since I was 5. After graduating from high school, I lived in Ecuador for two years volunteering as a missionary. When I came home, I began attending BYU-Idaho where I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in English education. I loved college and was able to gain lots of valuable teaching experience including working as a teaching assistant for two English professors, serving as a Spanish tutor/translator on a study abroad tour of Mexico, teaching at local public schools, and tutoring students from China, Ghana, and Mexico. This is my fifth year teaching at CHS, and I have loved every minute of it. Currently, I am also a graduate student working on a master's degree in educational leadership through the University of Idaho. I will be completing my internship and graduating before the end of this year. When I am not in the classroom, I'm usually on an adventure with my wife and our two daughters. I also enjoy fly-fishing, photography, hiking, cycling, and playing the guitar.
