A little about me...

Hello, wonderful Fernan families!  I am excited for the opportunity to serve as Fernan's school counselor.  I love connecting with our students and their families, and I believe that relationship is the most powerful intervention. I am passionate about advocating for and supporting students.  I have been lucky to be a part of the amazing Fernan staff since the 2017-2018 school year.  I completed my undergraduate work in social work and sociology at Utah State University in 1999.  I earned a Master of Social Work from Boise State University in 2017. Go Broncos!  I spent several years working in child welfare, which gave me valuable experience working with children and families. In my free time I love to read, cook, and explore the outdoors with my husband, four kids, and three dogs.

    What I do...

Fernan's school counseling program supports the educational, social, emotional and behavioral growth of every student.  This is accompolished in a variety of ways including: individual student check-ins, crisis intervention, classroom support, whole-class lessons, small group lessons, and community referrals.  We have several programs at Fernan to assist with the needs of our students.  It is very important to me to be accessible and visible to all students, so I strive to be on the playground and in classrooms as often as possible.  Student 504 plans are a big part of my job, as well as providing support to parents and teachers.  Students can be referred to the counselor by teachers, administrators, other school staff, parents, or they can self-refer.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hestitate to contact me.
