Hello 2nd-grade families and welcome to the 2022-23 school year!

My name is Jacqueline Mercer and I am a 2nd-grade teacher here at Ramsey Magnet School of Science.  I received my degree from  New York State University of Buffalo.  This will be my fifth year teaching 2nd grade. Previously, I taught Special Education for 4 years and before that I taught in an Early Education classroom in New York.  I can't express how excited I am to be on this adventure with your children.  I believe in teaching with compassion, dedication, and enthusiasm.  I am committed to helping students achieve academically while nurturing their unconditional self-acceptance and emotional well-being.  My goal is to create caring and empathetic students who develop a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.  I hope to ignite a spark that will inspire them to believe, grow, and seek the knowledge they need to figure out what moves them to make a difference in the world. I believe that students need to feel comfortable working, exploring, taking risks, and learning; therefore, I  want my students to think of our classroom as a second home.

About me:
I grew up in New York and love to go back and visit, but Coeur d'Alene became our home 15 years ago and we love it.  We have an 18-month-old golden retriever named Finn and he keeps us very happy and busy.  When I am not teaching or playing at the river with Finn, I love reading, hiking, playing with my nieces and nephews, and baking.  My husband and I love football and hockey and are always rooting for our NY teams (Go Bills!).
