• Title Teacher Mrs. Jones

Welcome to WHEN (What Everyone Needs), aka Title 1. My name is Kathy Jones. This begins my 34th year in education.  Throughout my career, I've taught 4th, 3rd, and 1st grades and Title 1 reading.   My main interest has been in teaching reading. I enjoy the science of it. I believe all children should be readers and I love helping them get there. The Coeur d’Alene School District has been such a support to me throughout the years and they allowed me the opportunity to receive some of the finest literacy training available,  LindaMood Bell and Louisa Moates (LETRS), and most recently Orton Gillingham. Once I learned how children acquire the ability to read and also was taught how to diagnose and then provide interventions in reading, I became a literacy coach and spent five fantastic years working in all 10 elementary schools in Coeur d’Alene. As in any journey, I had a favorite spot and that was the Title 1 program. This is where I get to focus on individual children’s needs and help them unlock the code. It is the best job ever!

I have two wonderful stepchildren who are married with careers of their own.  I am also blessed with two gorgeous step-granddaughters, ages 11 and 13 and an adorable step-grandson who is 3.  I look forward to building a family-like atmosphere in the WHEN room with all of you this year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have reading questions about your child.

Thank you for sharing your children with me.
