My name is Derek Sandin, and this is my 3rd year at Winton Elementary. I love Winton Elementary! The staff and students are amazing. Prior to Winton, I was one of the special education resource room teachers at Canfield Middle School.
I received my degree from Eastern Washington University (go Eags!) in 2008, and was a substitute teacher for one year in the Spokane area. In 2014, I earned my masters in educational leadership from the University of Idaho. Other than one year teaching 7th grade math, most of my career in education has been in special education. I really enjoy the smaller group sizes and helping students achieve their individual educational goals.
When not at Winton, I love spending time with my wife, Jenna, and we both try to keep up with our four kids: Paige (7), Parker (5), Bradley (3), and Vivian (1). I also enjoy watching and playing basketball, mountain biking, hiking, camping, going to church, and doing most everything outdoors. Although the start of this year will be unique, I know we are going to have a great year!
