• College COVID-19 Updates

Below are messages from colleges who have reached out regarding COVID-19 with any new steps or information they have at this time. We encourage you to reach out directly to the admissions office of the school you plan to attend with any questions or concerns you may have if you have.

  • U of I

My name is Becky Byers and I am the University of Idaho admissions representative based in Coeur d'Alene. I hope I can help you with questions about how to become part of the Vandal Family, so feel free to call/text me at 208-292-2510, or email beckyb@uidaho.edu.

I am also offering time slots for online conversations and hope to use this time to speak with you to answer any questions you might have. If you have 30 minutes, I can assist you on your college journey.  I’m more than happy to talk to students that are already admitted to U of I, as well as students who are just exploring their college options.  Families are welcome to join the conversation.  Please make an appointment at https://futurevandals.uidaho.edu/portal/vandal-visit-becky-byers

While our U of I campus visits have been suspended through May 15th, you can still learn more about the University of Idaho. Watch a presentation, take a virtual tour, connect with a current student, and learn about student life and academic programs by visiting https://www.uidaho.edu/events/uidaho-bound/virtual-uidaho-bound

    LCSC

We know that many high schools have moved to a pass/fail grading system for the remainder of the year.  We also know there might be concern that pass/fail grades could impact admission and scholarship opportunities at Lewis-Clark State College.

Admission: There is no significant impact.  Students attending an Idaho public school may be notified of their admission to LC State through the State Board's Direct Admission program.  Applicants who are not admitted under the State Board's Direct Admission program must meet the GPA requirement (minimum 2.0 GPA), successfully complete the
Idaho admission standards core, and meet other admission requirements.

Scholarships: LC State awards scholarships based on the student's cumulative GPA OR test score.  We look at the GPA on the student's 7th semester/10th trimester transcript.

Please don't hesitate to have students or parents contact our offices directly.  We are more than happy to visit with them about their concerns.

    Sincerely,

    Soo Lee Bruce-Smith

    SCAD

As the end of this academic year approaches, you undoubtedly have students reaching out to you with questions regarding college applications - especially in this uncertain time. As a reminder, SCAD accepts new applications throughout the year, and there is no deadline to apply. SCAD classes are taught on the quarter system, and fall quarter begins Sept. 14. Students may still apply online, and SCAD is still working with students who need to complete their application. SCAD also has scholarships available for qualified students.

Additionally, please note that SCAD does not have (and never has had) a specific deadline to submit the enrollment fee. While we encourage students to commit to SCAD as early as possible to ensure that they are able to arrange housing and prepare for the upcoming academic year, we understand that every student and family is different and that some families may need more time to prepare. SCAD admission advisers are here when students are ready for this next step.

In response to SAT and ACT testing sites being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SCAD will waive the SAT/ACT test requirement for Fall 2020 admission consideration. The university will now be test-optional, meaning students may choose to submit test scores if available, but applications from students without test scores also will be considered. The lack of test scores will not impact the university's evaluation of a student's application or scholarship consideration.

Also, as of March 2020, SCAD is temporarily accepting the Duolingo verified test scores. In submitting the Duolingo English Test, a minimum score of 115 will be required to waive the English Proficiency.

As you continue to work virtually with your students, let us know if we can assist in any way - by setting up a virtual meeting with SCAD staff, sharing eLearning resources, or sharing information about some of our upcoming virtual events. Your grade 9-12 students also can join a SCAD faculty member in a one-hour virtual workshop in areas such as photography, concept development, storytelling, film and television, animation and more. If you're interested, please email me at llangsto@scad.edu with your request.

We look forward to continuing to work with you in the coming months and years, and eagerly anticipate being able to return to your classrooms, counseling offices and schools.

    Best regards,

    Lara Langston

    Gonzaga

We have heard seniors across the country are worried about leaving their hometowns due to the global pandemic, and our hearts go out to them. Such a challenging time to make a college decision. If you have any students who decide they would like to stay closer to home, please know we will welcome late applications from them. This is a time when we must be as flexible as possible, and we extend that to you and your students. Furthermore, it’s never too late to file a FAFSA, and students applying now will have equal access to aid as students who applied months ago.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I’m happy to be of assistance to you, your students, and their families.

    Take care,

    Idaho State University

There are a few things students can do right now: for example, if you know of a student who was trying to make a college visit over Spring Break, they can still "visit" campus virtually. We have an awesome opportunity for students to take part in an official Idaho State University campus tour here. For admitted seniors, I am reaching out via phone to make sure they are aware of important next steps. Registration at Idaho State begins on April 20, and there are some steps they need to take prior to that, so I am checking in to help. Another thing that your seniors could do is set up an appointment with me to virtually meet and go over next steps.

I hope that this helps! I'm happy to answer any of your, or your students', questions as we all try and move forward in the current climate. Thanks again for reaching out!

    Take care!
