Holiday Attendance Challenge

  • Make daily attendance a priority and win!

With the 2018-19 winter holiday nearing quickly, we want to stress the importance of sending your student to school every day possible.

Every year in our schools, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. It has been proven that just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. This is true for all students — kindergarten through high school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.

We’d like to highlight those students that work hard to stay healthy and be in class every day on time. We’d also like to recognize those students who may face challenges at home that keep them from having regular attendance but still work hard to make school attendance a priority.

Please note that incentives for perfect attendance do not mean you should send your child to school sick. By practicing regular handwashing and healthy habits, your child may be able to avoid common illnesses. If your child does get sick, be familiar with the district's illness guidelines

    Holiday Attendance Challenge

As a fun incentive, we challenge our students (and their families) to make attendance in November and December a priority! We will be giving away incentive gifts across the district to students and classrooms whose attendance record or efforts to attend stand out. Prizes vary by school:

    Elementary Schools:

    • Classroom w/ most Improved Attendance (Attendance in Nov & Dec compared to Sept & Oct) gets a pizza party.
    • Student w/ Most Improved Attendance (up to 2 per school) a gift card or pass (prize varies) and small 3” trophy.
    • Classroom w/ Highest Attendance (Attendance for the calendar months of Nov & Dec) will get a class treat.

    Secondary Schools:

    • Students selected for Most Improved Attendance and those drawn with Perfect Attendance will get a gift card (prize varies).
    • Students with “Most Inspirational Effort” will get a gift card (prize varies) and an award certificate signed by the principal and superintendent.

This program starts immediately. Help us convey the message that attendance matters this winter holiday, and the rest of the 2018-19 school year!
