About the Program
-
Partner with us to help young readers.
Building readers in our community help us all. A student’s ability to read has a powerful implication for whether the child will enter college or find a good job. One of the most accurate predictors of a student’s future academic success is whether he/she has developed reading as a pastime pursuit.
A lifelong reading habit begins with encountering great books, heartfelt recommendations, and a community of readers who share this passion.
Our Program Goals
Build Classroom Libraries: Our schools’ efforts to develop strong comprehension and a love for reading literature depend on rich classroom libraries where students, young and old, have immediate access to all kinds of books. While school and public libraries offer access to books, the classroom library is paramount in offering a literature-rich environment for enthusiastic readers. The challenge, however, is finding the funds for the classroom libraries. With limited resources, teachers and leaders are looking for help.
Provide Volunteer Support: Volunteers can enhance our classroom reading communities by sharing a passion for reading.
Why Become a Partner?
Because building readers help everyone! A student’s ability to read is a good indication of whether or not a child will enter college or find a good job. Did you know that one of the most accurate predictors of a student’s future academic success is whether or not he/she has developed reading as a pastime pursuit? Students who read independently:
- Become better readers,
- Score higher on achievement tests in all areas and
- Have greater content knowledge than non-readers.
The possibilities are as endless as your imagination and the creativity of the teachers whose class you adopt!
