Building a Sensory Smart Toolbox
In partnership with the Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club, Coeur d'Alene Kiwanis Club, and members of our amazing CdA School District occupational therapy team, our Borah team of general education teachers, special education teachers, and support staff, is now able to equip more of our students with tools which meet a diverse range of sensory needs. Over the last year, we have received generous grants to help us address the unique and growing needs of students walking through our doors. My personal philosophy for addressing behavior challenges, social emotional needs, and positive student supports is to be preventative by equipping students with the tools they need to self-regulate their bodies and emotions, so that their brains can be functioning at their best, where optimal learning can take place.
Some research-based sensory smart tools available to our students include:
-Yoga Ball Seating
-Wiggle Seat Cushions
-MANY Flexible Seating Options
... and MANY MORE!
We would like to thank all of our community partners who support our students, families, and staff!
