Gaston Caperton Opportunity Award

  • November 2015
Assemblies were held at both schools to celebrate the good news.

Coeur d'Alene High School (CHS) and Lake City High School (LCHS) were two out of four high schools nationwide to receive the Caston Caperton Opportunity Award from the College Board for 2015. This award honors high schools that help expand access to higher education by providing students with rigorous offerings and innovate collage-prepartation programs. Winning high schools demonstrate significant and consistant growth in the number of underrepresented students and students taking college-level courses and applying to four or more colleges.

Our district was noted for having taken the initiative of offering the PSAT/NMSQT® to all students in grades 9-11, with the highest composite SAT® scores of the 10 largest school districts in Idaho, and for doubling the amount of Advances Placement Program® (AP) courses available to students with CHS and LCHS combined, tripled their AP participation rate since 2010.
