I do spelling a little bit different.  I pick a spelling rule and a list of the spelling lessons called Spelling For Writers.  I have had great success with this program. 

     At the beginning of the week, our class takes a pretest for a new spelling lesson. On the pretest, if your child gets a word wrong, he/she continues to study that word for the rest of the week.  If he/she get a word right, he/she replaces the word with a word from the shopping list.

     At the end of the week, your child will take a final test on the customized word list. I will correct the test and get it back your child at the beginning of the following week. 

     Here are some things that will help with studying spelling words:

• Write them three times
• If the word has more than one syllable, split it into syllables.
• Say it differently so it helps with the spelling.
• Type the words
