• Mrs. Chu

Hello! My name is Clarisse Chu. I LOVE school (always have!), and when I’m not in school, I enjoy all sorts of outdoor adventures with my husband, Ben, and our black lab, Lucy.  I also like reading, knitting, baking/cooking (and eating!), and practicing yoga.

I’m originally a New Englander; I grew up on the Maine coast and studied neuroscience at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. While in college, I worked in a lab that studied the neural basis of reading development.  I was fascinated by the fact that the brain literally changes - both structurally and functionally - when we learn, and this led me to pursue a career in teaching. I taught kindergarten for two years at a small rural school in Vermont, and then in the summer of 2016 I packed up my car (and my dog, Riley) and drove across the country to move closer to my extended family, almost all of whom live in Coeur d’Alene.  I taught 2nd grade at Ramsey for two years, and now I’m thrilled to be back in kindergarten!

I am so excited to spend this year learning together!  My main goals are for all of us to love learning, think critically, and be kind. Kindergarten is such a special time in a family’s life.  We will work hard to create a respectful classroom so that everyone feels safe to take intellectual risks.  Together, we will explore things like trees and weather, materials and motion, and animal habitats. We will learn how to work with numbers, and we will get lost in many great books as we develop the skills to decode and make meaning from text!

Welcome to kindergarten - we have a fun adventure ahead of us!
